Time Out Settings on Timesheets

C

Chris

Hi there

A number of our Team Members keep their like to work with their Timesheet
open all day in the background on their PC, updating as when they need to.
However there seems to be a timeout following a period of extended
inactivity. How does the administrator control this?

An indirect way to solve this problem is to teach the user how to display
the PWA timesheet page in Outlook. To do this, the user should complete the
following steps:

1. Log into PWA
2. Click the "Work with Outlook" link on the right side of the Home page
3. Click the "Display Project Web Access in Outlook" link at the bottom of
the page
4. Click Yes in the ActiveX dialog, if it is displayed
5. Click the "Add Project Web Access link" pick list and select the View My
Tasks page
6. Select the "As the home page to a new Outlook folder" option
7. Enter a name for the new folder such as "PWA Timesheet"
8. Click the OK button
9. Close and relaunch Outlook, if necessary

If the user clicks the PWA Timesheet link in the folders on the left side of
the Outlook page, he/she will see the PWA timesheet page and will be able to
enter actuals and update them to the PM. He/she will probably spend most of
the day on the Inbox page in Outlook, but can quickly select the PWA
Timesheet page at any time. Hope this helps.

Dale suggested a better alternate. Here is my thought on this.

You can set timeout features in IIS. Increasing the timeout to higher values
might cause performace issues. Based on the value, server has to keep the
sesssions active for that much time.

You don't want to keep a session alive for whole day. PWA Timeout should be
covered in training session.

I hope that would help.
