Time sheet in Excel

I'm a long time but mostly just basic user of Excel, so my apologies if
this is a dumb question.

I'm trying to create a time sheet to keep track of time I spend on
projects for clients. I hate to type in time, with all the correct
digits,( i.e. "2:30 pm") but would prefer to be able to hit a key
command and have the current time be entered.

Is there any way to do this?

Oh, another question. My time often spans a day, for instance I may
start at 8pm and go until 1:30 am. I don't know how to time-format
cells to properly compute time spent in those cases.

Oh and one more thing. Is there a format to compute hours into
integers? Like to change 2:30 to 2.5? This would enable me to
multiply hours by hourly wage.

thanks

You can enter the time as 14:30 meaning 2:30 PM today. As mentioned in
another post, Apple-semicolon will enter the current date and time. To
display the total time in whole hours use the formula [h]:mm. To convert to
decimal hours, multiply by 24.

Try Command (MAC)/ Control (Windows) ; (semi colon) for the time

If you want the date it is Command (MAC)/ Control (Windows) - (dash -
not underline)

OOPS, I meant the custom FORMAT [h]:mm, not formula.
