time to reinstall Excel?

H

Harvey Waxman

Excel has begin losing it's prefs, or more accurately one pref. I have to rest
the 'feedback with sound' frequently. Also I note that it opens a file that
was last used even along with the file I actually opened.

Along with the other strangeness, especially of the very slow calulation times
I have to wonder:Time to reinstall?

What can I do to be sure that is in pristine condition should I do this. I
suppose I will lose any macros in my personal macros workbook too? What about
a module in a particular workbook? Will it be retained?

Thanks

Harvey

Hi again,

The next thing I'd try is trashing the preferences and plist files for all
the office applications.

Look in the preferences folder:
Hard Drive:User:Library:preferences

You find a bunch of com.microsoft... files and a folder called Microsoft.
Trash the files and the entire Microsoft folder. You'll loose all your
settings and customizations except your Word Normal template. You won't
loose any Entourage contacts, events, or rules. You have to trash these
things when all office apps are closed. You have to empty the trash before
starting an Office application.

Also, go to your Log-in preferences and delete the Microsoft daemon after
you trash the prefs but before you start an Office application.

If you have the time you can delete a preference at a time, but when I get
stuck I just trash them all.
