Time tracking system migration.

Hi,

We are starting to migrate our assorted management tools to Project
Server 2007. We currently use an application developed by us to track
what our resources do each day, and we are trying to move this to
Project Server 2007.

This application have a list of projects, each with a list of
deliveries. At the end of the day/week/month, the person responsible for
tracking time uses the application to fill in the required data. This is
done by entering the following values for each reasource, for each day:
project, deliverable and the percentage of the day used for that
deliverable. This means that for a specific day, Paul can work 30% of
his time on project A, deliverable Design and 70% on project B,
deliverable Manual.

The application also outputs a report with a grid showing the work time
percentage for all resources for each day in a given month (0% if the
rsource didn't worked that day or 100% for a full day of work).

Now I would like to know if this is possible to do with Project Server's
time tracking system. If someone has any tips or online resources that
could help me, I would appreciate.

Thanks

Hi Pedro,
As you know, project server has both Timesheets and Task Statusing. If
order to move forward, you need to define the business requirement that your
current application meets, and match that requirement either to Timesheets,
task statusing or both. If seems to me that given the output, you are
tracking resources' utilisation, so you need initially to look at the
Timesheet functionality. Within there, you'll be able to enter the hours per
day worked on each deliverable (task) that the resources are assigned to.

Thank you Ben and Rod.

Just have one last question regarding this.

Does it matter whether we choose timesheet or task statusing when it
comes to create the reports?

I've already set up cube building with SQL Server 2008 analisys server.
I imagine that I will be create the reports on the resulting reporting
database. I just don't know if this database will contain the same
information independently of the time tracking method we use.

Thanks

Pedro
