There are 2 posts concerning same issue.

The instructions state to go to ther TIMELINE menu and select the IMPORT
option to pull in data from MSProject into Visio. The option does not appear
in the drop down menu.

I am using VISIO 2003 with a COMPLETE INSTALL

on my system; I select File => New => Project Schedule => Timeline, and the
timeline menu (addin) appears between Shape and Window. Import/Export are at
the bottom of the list.

I follow you exactly. I have the timeline menu in my menu bar.

However, and here's the problem, when I click on the timeline drop down
menu, the Import and Export options DO NOT appear at all. They do not even
show up as being grayed out.

I read the other post on the same issue, and the SAME EXACT THING is
happening to her.

it sounds like it is being installed, the issue appears to be what is going
to be allowed. I'm wondering if it might be a visio setup issue (mine is
setup in developers mode, security level). Are there other wizards that
don't work (orgchart?)?

Org Chart wizard comes up when I click on the stencil.

Import and Export options are available on the Gannt chart menu.
I clicked on Import (gannt chart menu) and the wizard came up.

So as a cursory glance, no problems with other wizards...?

what version of project do you have installed on your system (since on mine
the wizard is looking for a project file)

no, the question was what version of Microsoft Project do you have
installed?

Sorry, I do not have MSProject installed.

I would get an export file from a co-worker to drop into Visio.

"If you have Microsoft Project 2000 or later installed on your machine, you
can import tasks and milestones from a Project (MPP) file to create a Visio
timeline using the Import Timeline Wizard"

I will try that. I will have to go and purchase a copy of MSProject.

Should the situation be the same for the Gannt Chart menu??

Will follow-up on Monday.

a very big assumption on my part would be that the addin calls ms project to
manipulate the data. I'm not the expert.

It works now by having loaded MSProject. I have been playing with it and it
works.

It would be helpful to see a note added to the help that would clarify this
point.

Thanks for all your help!!!
