Timesheet - Actual

MJ

Hi, is it possible when user enter "0" actual hours in his/her timesheet, and
it will update "0" actual into the plan?

ie. Scheduled hours were 5 hours for Task A, user enter"0" in his timesheet,
after the PM update the task, that "0" acutals will be updated into the plan,
so Task A has "0" for that week, and push that "5"hours to the future.

When you say "timesheet", are you referring to the My Tasks page or the My
Timesheet page? Keep in mind that Actual Work entered on the My Timesheet
page does NOT impact the enterprise project in Project Professional 2007 .
Only Actual Work entered on the My Tasks page (or imported to the My Tasks
page from the My Timesheet page) affects the schedule of the enterprise
project in Project Professional 2007.

To attempt to answer your question, let's assume you mean the My Tasks page.
When a team member enters a 0 on any day in the timesheet grid on the My
Tasks page, the system will replace it with a blank. The only way the 0
will get recorded in the enterprise project in Project Professional 2007 is
if the team member enters any Actual Work number greater than 0h in the NEXT
day on the timesheet grid on the My Tasks page. For example, let's say that
the team member entered the following on his/her My Tasks page:

M T W Th F
8 8 8 0 8

Because there is 8h of Actual Work entered on Friday, the system WILL record
the 0h on Thursday in the enterprise project. On the other hand, let's say
the team member entered the following on his/her My Tasks page:

M T W Th F
8 8 8 8 0

In this case, the system WILL NOT record the 0h on Friday. It will leave
the Actual Work field BLANK on that Friday in the enterprise project,
somehow assuming that the team member might still work on the task that day.
You can see and confirm this information in the enterprise project by
applying either the Task Usage view or the Resource Usage view and zooming
to the Weeks Over Days level of zoom on the timescale bar. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for the detail info. We use My Timesheet only without My Task, as we
are using Tied Timesheet source code. Therefore, once the PM approve
timesheets and update tasks, all actual updated to the MS Project Pro.

We also use Weekly timesheet instead of by day. Based on what you were
saying, I believe the answer to my question is "NO." As the system will
replace "0" actual with blank.

Yes, your assumption is correct. The system will not enter 0h for a weekly
time period until the team member enters Actual Work > 0h in the next time
weekly time period. Hope this helps.
