TIMESHEET AND TASK COMPLETION

I have in error logged this question in general questions.

We are coming to the completion of a full EPM implementation and will use PWA
to communicate tasks to team members and receive status information back from
them. Despite trying (via modelling) different settings of the three types of
default methods of reporting tasks and different task types setting we
cannot find an elegant solution. Simply put we want to show task completion
in % and have the team members “book†time in hours (in timsheet) against
each task and track work and task overruns.
Would much appreciate any suggestions - we are convinced if the right
combination of setting we can achieve our goal.

John:

If you're saying that you want to track hours, but you don't want them to be
accepted into the project plan to drive task completion, then you'll need a
work around. Use one plan to track hours, and another to track percent
complete. In 2003, you can't separate hours from task status. This is
possible in 2007.

Gary, yes that is what we wanted to do. Thanks very much for the reply, we
were concerned that we had missed a fundamental issue.

No you haven't missed something. The main purpose of the View My Tasks page
is to drive progress. You can approach this by having a plan for hours
tracking and a separate one for detail task tracking by percent complete. I
suggest that you keep your hour tracking tasks as high-level as possible.
One task per project if you can as you don't want to burden your end users.
