Timesheet approval only by someone on behalf PM

I would like PM not doing approve the timesheet, this task should switch to
other staff and that staff only have the role to approve the timesheet.
I don't want PM have more jobs rather than focusing on project management,
negotiation, solve issues/ risks, etc.
I think that routine task such as timesheet approval do by someone else, so
PM role only create projects, tasks, publish the project, monitoring their
projects.

I already tried that scenario where A act as team member, B act as PM and C
act as timesheet approver.
The result is: every task assigned by PM to team member and every actual
work input by team member always sent to PM (B) where it should be send to C
and approve by C NOT by B.

You should have C republish the assignments in the project and check the
box for becoming the manager for the assignments.

One thing to think about though is that a very big part of monitoring
their projects is in knowing how much as been done, who has done it and
how that effects the schedule. Offloading this task to someone else puts
the PM at a disadvantage. Unless your project is gigantic in the number of
tasks or assignments we are talking about maybe 30 or 40 mins a week. A
small price to pay to have a stronger handle on their schedule.

Hi,

From my point of view, timesheet 'approver' role is useless because PM will
have to validate and accept the time sheet anyway. Working with managed
period, if PM is both project and ressource manager, he will have to accept
twice the timesheet submitted by ressource ! So we decided to disable
timesheet approval in our organization and only change assignment owners in
projects as Brian suggested.
