Timesheet approval

dear All

Yesterday, My team done the FCT (Full Cycle Test) for many scenario using MS
Project Profesional 2007 and Project Server 2007
The member/resource after entered the actual value in My Timesheet, they
only saved the timsheet, without submit and approval from his PM. They
submitted in the end of week.
But they can import timesheet to task in My Task, the progress is still
updated

So what the difference between timesheet approval or not? If the timesheet
have been submitted, the resource must recall the time sheet agaian, so it is
easy for only save the timesheet?

Thanks for all

Think of Timesheets and Task Updates as two independant functions. You don't
need timesheets to perform Task Updates, so it doesn't make any difference as
to whether timesheets are approved or not (as far as task updates goes).

Timesheets are good for tracking all time (project and non project time),
whereas task updates simply update assignment progress.

hi,

we have similar problem. we would like to collect task progress based on
actual work and remaining work.

Do we need to use timesheets functionality ?
My tasks functionality seems to be enough, but we do not know how to
configure project server to enable us to write actual work per each day in
may task view, or in the selected task
the web form does not iclude this possibility.

thanks for any help

You only need to use the Timesheet functionality if you need to track all
types of work, including non-project work. So, if you don't need to do
that, don't use the Timesheet functionality. To set up the method of
tracking you want, ask your Project Server administrator to do the
following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions.
2. Click the Server Settings link in the Quick Launch menu.
3. Click the Task Settings and Display link in the Time and Task Management
section of the Server Settings page.
4. Select the Hours of Work Done Per Period option.
5. Click the Resources Should Report Their Hours Worked Every Day option.
6. Click the Save button.

Hope this helps.

Oh I see
Then I have choose If I change the "Hours of Work Done Per Period". I change
remaining work = 0 hr (from the beginning : 4hr). The resource is assigned
for 8 hr.
He had done his work early, only 4hr.
But it can't saved with error message : "New finish date must occur after
start date and between 1/1/1984 and 12/31/2049"

What must I do to correct this?

thank Mr Dale
Your answer's help me and you gave me chance to try another testing to my
project

Where are you seeing this error? You give us no details about where you are
doing this. In the Microsoft Project plan? In the PWA timesheet? Please
tell us where you did this and how you did this.

In PWA at My Task, sir :). Project Server 2007
It happen when I change the task, for remaining work. I change the remaining
work from 4hr to 0hr, because I had done the task faster than the schedule

Thx

The Remaining Work field does not appear on the My Tasks page. Did your
Project Server administrator add this field to the My Tasks page?
Otherwise, did the team member click the name of the task to see the
Assignment Details page and change the Remaining Work there? Did the team
member enter his/her Actual Work in the timesheet grid on either the My
Tasks page or the Assignment Details page? What dates appear in the Start
and Finish fields for the task? Let us know.
