I have a Project Professional Update question that is puzzling me. I have
seen this behavior before but haven’t figured out what is happening, but the
scenario is this. We are using Project Server 2003 and are having resources
update tasks by putting in actual hours by day. I have a task that has three
resources assigned. It is a Fixed Work task with two resources having 10
hours of work and one resource having 24 hours. The total effort is to occur
over a two week period.
On a recent update, the resource with 24 hours put in some time. After I
did the update at the end of the first week the task split and moved the
remaining work out three weeks. I am having difficulty getting the task to
move back to be where it should. I have looked at predecessors and there is
only one and that task is complete. I have looked at resource calendars but
the resources do not have any blocked days. What I would expect Project to
do would be to spread remaining hours from the day after the status date and
not arbitrarily move them. I have seen this on other tasks but have tried to
work around it and would like to know if someone has an explanation.
I could turn off split tasks capability but that will not allow me to status
the project plan correctly. The option we have set in the global template
under the Calculation options section under the Calculation tab is “updating
task status updates resource statusâ€. The others are unchecked in that
section and from my reading “updating task status updates resource statusâ€
should be the only on checked when having resources enter actual hours in PWA.
Thoughts?
