Timesheets and Actuals

Hi

I have a question about timesheets and actual work on projects. I am using
Project Server 2007 and I have 'Restrict updates to Project Web Access'
checked on the 'Task Settings and Display' page in project server as I want
to maintain a separation between the project and timesheets i.e. I only want
the resources to be able to update the time shown in timesheets and the
corresponding data in the reporting database. I do want to be able to update
the actual work on the project plan in project so the PMs can set the tasks
to 100% complete etc.

With 'Restrict updates to Project Web Access' checked I am able to keep the
timesheets safe from being updated by anyone else but the resources but I get
the following error when trying to set the %complete or actual work in
Project Pro - "your action may result in actuals in this project becoming out
of synch with the actuals updated from timesheets" and when trying to save
the plan Project refuses to commit the data to the database.

How can I allow project managers to update progress on project plans and
still keep timesheets from being updated.

Thanks in advance

Andy

You can't have it both ways. If you select the Restrict Updates to Project
Web Access, ALL task updates MUST originate from the My Tasks page in PWA.
The only exception to this rule is Milestone tasks, which a PM can manually
update in the Microsoft Project plan. So, your requirements for setting
task updates are in conflict with one another. Personally, I have found the
Restrict Updates to Project Web Access feature too restrictive, since it
also seems to prevent team members from adjusting the Remaining Work field
(if you include this in the My Tasks page) and from adding a Note to tasks
as well. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale

Thanks again for for the benefit of you expertise. It looks like I'll have
to give our procedures some more thought.
