I'm trying to set up a Word 2007 template using document properties to
populate content controls on the front page and in the headers and footers
but I've got a problem and I was wondering if it's just me and if anyone's
got any ideas to handle it.
Here's a simplified example:
Start a new document and edit the header.
Write the text "First section header" then insert the document title field
by going to Insert -> Quick Parts -> Document Property -> Title
Exit the header and put the same field into the document text.
Now insert a Next Page Section break.
In the new section edit the header and remove the "Link to Previous" option.
Write the text "Second section header" then insert the document title field.
Exit the header and put the same field into the document text.
Test that the Title control is working by going to the Office Button ->
Prepare -> Properties and entering "My document title" in the title field.
All four occurrences in the document should update.
Save the document and close Word, then re-open the document.
Test that the Title control is working by going to the Office Button ->
Prepare -> Properties and entering "My new title" in the title field. All
occurrences in the document update apart from the one in the header for the
second section. If you edit this second header you find that the Title
control has been replaced by plain text!
So, is it just me? Am I doing something wrong? I can't use "DOCPROPERTY"
fields, it has to be done with content controls like this to tie in with a
customised Document Information Panel I've developed that works in a similar
way. Fortunately the above example shows the problem without having to
explain the details.
