To: address disappears when I hit "Send"

Hi,
I'm using Outlook 2000. I recently imported a .csv file
to my contacts folder which made opening my address book
very slow. I deleted all the contents and tried to start
over only to find that now when I import, I get an error
and Outlook shuts down. Also, I am unable to add contacts
individually. And if I type an address into the To: area
of an email, it disappears when I hit send. I am able to
recieve email, but cannot send any due to this problem. I
can't even reply. I have tried uninstalling and re-
installing outlook, but problem remains. Suggestions
appreciated! Thanks.

Never use the Address Book interface for entering Contact information.
Always use the Contacts Folder.
You may have a damaged Personal Folders file or Outlook Address Book
Service. Use the Inbox Repair Tool to repair your PST file. Remove and
re-add the Outlook Address Book Service.
You did not post your mail support mode, which you would need to do for any
further help.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. What is "mail support
mode"?
