To fill an area with a color

Salutations and a good new year.

I have a list of (x, y) points on a XY-Dispertion graph, in Excell'97. They
draw a closed poliline.
I need to fill this figure with a solid color.
Is this possible?
Imagine a list of six paired points (X, Y):
(1, 1), (5, 1), (5, 5), (3, 8), (1, 5), (1, 1)
This define one closed poliline that I want to refill in with red color.
How you do?

Since Excel has no general way of determining that the points on an XY chart
for a closed graph, there is no way of colouring the enclosed area.
