To upgrade to expressions or not?

I have been getting error messages on FP2002 - saying I need to upgrade. The
info given by MS about Expressions Web leaves me cold and baffled - I chose
FPage because it was easy!

If I upgrade do my existing Frontpage websites convert to the new
Expressions easily? Can I then continue to develop the sites as before, i.e
just typing in and letting the program do all the coding? I don't use
anything complicated on the websites, they are mainly just text, pictures and
links.

Any advice by someone who has already converted would be most gratefully
received - Thank you.

No conversion needed you'd just open your FP website with EW.
(make backup first :)

You can continue to use FP until you're comfortable with EW (they can exist
side by side on your machine)

Hi Malc,

Where exactly are you seeing these error messages..and can you give us the
exact wording that they have?

When I go to 'publish web' the pages are listed, but with conflicts for any
amended pages. (Have tried recalculate hyperlinks). If I then try to upload
it gets to the point of listing pages then the screen fades out and I get the
message that an error has occured - no reasons given, when I continue I then
get the message for upgrading - again no reason for error given.

Hi Malc,

I am trying to understand this error (I haven't heard of this happening like
you have described before) The reason I am asking is that FrontPage itself
will continue to function for a very long time to come. The FrontPage
extensions however might (not the same as the program) might not be
supported or used as much on a host by host basis.

I am just wondering if you are seeing some type of message to do an update
from the Microsoft site meaning either an operating system update/patch..or
possibly the same with an Office update. Do you do those for your computer?

Thanks for looking into this Joe. As far as I know I have all the updates and
did another check - however I recently upgraded to Vista and I see on these
posts that a few other people are having trouble uploading.

At the moment on one website every amendment to any page makes it come up as
a 'conflict' - on the other site I run everything is just fine.

Hi Malc,

Something that might work:

Try opening your live site and then publishing that back down to your
computer. Then you can open your site on the computer and publish that back
to the host. That should at least clear up any synching issues hopefully.

Most of the problems seen with FrontPage and Vista are with inserting
hyperlinks..FrontPage crashes and must be restarted.
