TOA Marks in text are not hidden--how do I fix it?

Table of Authority marks are supposed to be hidden text, but they aren't. As
a result, the page numbers are all wrong. The TOA marks do not show up when I
print the document (which is good!), but that makes it two pages shorter and
messes up both the Table of Authorities and Table of Contents.

Any idea how to fix this?

When you hide Hidden text (Tools | Options | View or Show/Hide ¶ on the
Standard toolbar), do you still see them? Do they have dotted underlines?
They're Hidden.

I did a search before I posted this topic, but I put in "TOA" instead of
"Table of Authorities" so I didn't find all of these great answers. Thanks to
Dixie and especially to Alicia Gentry for the great answer. Solved my problem!

For anyone who finds this thread with a similar question, here is the answer
from Alicia Gentry:

"Check under Tools, Options, View tab, Formatting Marks Hidden text. When I
selected that option, my toa fields would also show regardless of whether or
not show/hide was on. Hope this helps. "

Once I deslected the box next to Hidden Text my TA marks disappeared and the
TOC and TOA page numbers were correct. I was pulling hair, so this is a
lifesaver.

Once I had the Tools/Options/View--Formatting Marks turned off, then the
Show/Hide Toolbar option worked correctly. With formatting hidden I just saw
the citations; with formatting turned on I could see the paragraph marks,
tabs, spaces AND the TA marks with dotted underlines. Problems solved
perfectly. :)
