TOC Automation problem

I

Ivan Debono

Hi all,

I have a VB6 app that creates a document based on a template.

This template has a TOC on the first page and an autotext entry with various
bookmarks is set up. The first field on the autotext enty (ie. the first
bookmark) is a Name field and is set up to print a new page break before.
The TOC is set up to use the Name bookmark instead of the heading fields.

I generate the document, but the TOC is out of sync. The entry names are
fine and in order but the page numbers are funny. The first is 3, for
example, and the other are all 2.

Do I need to configure the TOC in another way?

Thanks,
Ivan

G'day "Ivan Debono" <[email protected]>,

Have you updated the TOC twice? First time gets the page numbers as
present, but if the TOC grows beyond its page it will throw all these
out.

I tried that too but to no avail. I've only 5 entries in the TOC. Does it
need special field codes?
I've also based by Name field on Heading 1.

G'day "Ivan Debono" <[email protected]>,

Try a Maggie: Cut everything except the last para mark in each section
to a new document. If this doesn't work, you may have to email the doc
to me for a quick squizz.

Ivan,

Your page numbers are funny in the TOC because they are funny on the actual
pages. It looks as if you have a section's page numbering set to start at
2, and then you inserted a section break between each page. The new
sections inherited the page numbering format from the original section and
you neglected to go into the page number format for each new section and
change to 'continue from previous'. Once you fix the page numbering in the
body of the document, the page numbers in the TOC will resolve themselves to
what you expect to see.

Chad

Thanks that was the problem.
