TOC broken into Chapters without use of Bookmarks

Hi

I've inherited a template. Chapter 1 is listed in it manually.

It has a blank TOC1 row, ie
TOC1 (this line has no data in it) then
TOC2 { TOC\o "1-3" \h \z then
Header }

This TOC generates a new TOC for each Chapter on a new page. I'm not
really sure how.

It then has the Header style (a paragraph style with no apparent
outline level assigned) applied in the body of the document to each
Chapter number and heading and appears to have a blank Header
placeholder under Heading 2

ie
Header Chapter 1
Header Title Chapter 1
Heading2 1.1. Title 1.1
Header (this line has no data in it) then
Heading3 1.1.1 Title 1.1.1
Normal Text
------------------section break (next page)--------
Header Chapter 2
Header Title Chapter 2
Heading2 2.1 Title 2.1
Header (this line has no data in it) then
Heading3 2.1.1 Title 2.1.1
Normal Text
etc

Trouble is when I try to use this template and assign additional Header
styles to eg Chapter 3, it will update the TOC OK, but I then lose the
separate page for each Chapter's TOC. I can't see anything listed in
any of the TOC styles settings.

I don't see any bookmarks, or other fields anywhere or underlying
styles.

One interesting thing: viewed in Outline view Chapter 1, Title Chapter
1 appear to be above everything else (although it itself doesn't appear
to have a level assigned). From Heading2 down are Level 2 or below.

Unless I can speak to the originator of the document itself I'm fairly
certain I can achieve the same with a series of bookmarked chapter
text.

Any ideas or tips as to how I can view all underlying details in an
inherited doc?

:) Thanks!

I'd check the Toc1 STYLE. Sounds like this has (or had) a "Page Break
before" paragraph formatting.

I would be interested in examining such a document. Please send a sample to
(e-mail address removed). I can probably tell you what's going on and how to
replicate it.

Thanks Suzanne. I'll send it across together with a MockUp.

I really appreciate any advice you can provide me with...suggestions
more than welcome.
