TOC gives "Cannot open the specified file" when clicking on a page number

Debbie

I have an issue with a document that used to be working,
and now it's not! (it is, of course, driving me nuts, or I
wouldn't be bothering you!)

We've set up a TOC (Table of Contents) as follows: TOC
\o "1-2" with formats "From Template" and have picked up
Heading 1, Heading 1 - no number, and Heading 2.

In the TOC, all of these headings have page number beside
them, but when I click on the page number, I get a "Cannot
open the specified file" message.

We do have Field codes throughout the document which
reference the stuff in File/Properties, but I can't see
how that would impact the page numbering in a Contents
Table!

The problem started about the time a collegue and I both
started using the document. I'm running Word '97 and she's
using 2000 (I think). Unfortunately, upgrading both of us
to the same version is nto an option at this stage.

We've tried deleting and recreating the table, but the
only thing that seems to work is to copy out bits of the
document into another document, and start over, without
the references to File/Properties, and I can't even be
sure whether that's because the new doco has been created
by one person, in one version of Word.

There are several references to hidden text, perhaps
someone could more clearly explain what I need to do to
find all this, and eliminate it?

Otherwise, any suggestions will be greatfully received.

Appreciate the assistance!

Steve,

Thankyou, I think you've hit the nail on the head.

If I click on 'Insert Hyperlink', the Path comes up
as '<Link to base reference' and the Base: says File Ref:
(the think I have in File Properties).
I therefore assume the issue is that I have a base
hyperlink value, and have no idea how to get rid of it!

Would you have any idea how I can clear this out?

Thanks again!
Debbie

Please ignore previous post, I just foung the Base
Hyperlink in File Properties, and after removing it, the
Table of Contents page numbering works beautifully!
Thanks for the assistance!
