TOC help in Word 2003

Marie

When I run my TOC, I have a section with page numbers i, ii, iii, etc. When
I automatically insert the TOC, the pages show up as I, II, III. I can't
seem to figure out how to change it back to lower case in the TOC.

If you have the TOC style formatted as All Caps, you will not be able to
change the page number display.

Is that just this version of Word? I used to do it in my last job by
shutting off the automatic update and manually making the changes?

Another question on this document -- I have 3 sections separated by a
section break. The first is the title page. I do not want a page number on
it. I've tried a couple of different ways but I keep getting it back. The
second and third section page numbers are fine.

Thanks much

This is true in all versions of Word. Naturally you can make changes in the
TOC and then lock or unlink the field, but if you update it (which will
ordinarily happen automatically on printing), your changes will be wiped
out.

If you have enabled "Different first page" and omit a page number in the
First Page Header/Footer, you can get a page without a page number without
requiring a section break. If you have a section break, however, you need
to unlink the second section header/footer from the first in order to delete
the page number from the first section.
