TOC & Numbering

I think I'm going potty! I've just had to use a TOC, styles, and
numbering for the first time, and it's driving me nuts. I've got the
document nearly as i want it, but am not quite there.

I've got three styles in the document, all based on Garmond bold.
Now... having been on this forum I went to the excellent Shauna Kelly
website and read all the material there. First, I need to base style 1
on 'no style.' That's done and is ok. Next I should base style 2 on
style 1, and style 3 on style 2, yes? Clicking the modify options for
style 2 and the 'based on' drop down box does not show style 1 in it
though! The nearest I can see in the list is Style Garmond Black, and
Style GarmondBold 10pt, which is my style 3. Am I looking for the
correct thing in the list, or am I barking up the wrong tree
altogether? So, am stuck there....

I've got a table of contents in it, but need to add the numbering in
the format, 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2.1, etc, so that I have three levels of
numbering - is it possible to add the numbering (if I can ever work out
how to do it) to the existing TOC, which currently only has the page
numbers on it?

TIA
