TOC - Orientation of entries reversed

Dear all,
The orientation of some entries of my TOC are reversed, i.e. going from
right to left instead of left to right.
This is odd: each time I reset the TOC styles and then update the TOC, Word
re-creates new TOC styles (TOC 1+, TOC 2+, etc.) which are the exact mirror
of the original styles (right-to-left orientation instead of left-to-right)
and applies it randomly to some entries.
Could someone help?

Check the language settings for the document. What you are seeing seems to
indicate that a right-to-left language has been enabled.
