TOC: page numbering of differing cases (l.c. or U.C.)

In a document where a synopsis precedes the TOC and uses lower case roman numerals, and where the page numbering following the TOC has upper case integers, I'm trying to have the TOC retain the lower case on the roman numerals (at level 1 and level 2 headings). Any ideas? I read Suzanne's article, which is great, but it doesn't help me with this particular issue.

Tried building new styles off of Level 1 and 2 headings, and having those assigned to TOC1 and TOC2, but this didn't resolve the problem. Any switches that retain page numbering as they appear on the page

Thanks everyone.

FWIW, I've never had this problem: the TOC has always picked up page numbers
in the format in which they appear on the page.
