TOC problem

I am using word 97 and have a long document which I edit
in separate documents then bring together in one document
to create a TOC and print. I have customised the styles
for the TOC and added it to the document template. The
TOC1 is based on no style, TOC2 is based on TOC1, TOC3 is
based on TOC2 etc. In TOC4 I have added a tab at 5cm and
although it is not described under the other TOC styles
when i look it keeps appearing in the document TOC and
creating problems with the format so that the supposedly
right aligned page number is aligned at 5 cm.

I hope this explains my problem, is there something I am
not fully understanding about using this feature.

When your cursor is in your TOC on a TOC 1, 2 or 3 entry,
does the unwanted tab show on your Ruler? If so, you can
drag it off and update each Style to get rid of the tab.
