TOC with leading page number?

Is it possible to create a table of contents with the page number
before the heading instead of after?

For example:

1 Chapter One
2 Chapter Two
3 Chapter Three

Thanks in advance!

This is possible, but it is excessively tedious. You need a one-row
two-column table where you want the TOC. In the right-hand cell insert
a TOC without page numbers. The left side is trickier.

You need a bookmark at every header that will be in the TOC. You can
use the built-in ones if you can figure them out, otherwise you had
best insert your own, with sensible names so you can figure out which
is which.

Then in the left-hand column of the TOC table insert PAGEREF fields
(you can use Insert | Reference | Cross-reference) to make the page
numbers show up.

Adjust the table column sizes and all of the styles and formatting so
that things line up as you wish.

If you seriously want to do this you should write a macro to do the
bookmarking and PAGEREF inserting. The macro could even be clever
enough to find out what bookmark Word had already inserted and use it.
