TOC without Paragraph Numbers

Fellow Forum Members,
I need to generate a second TOC that shows Headings 1-5 minus the Page
Number and Paragraph Number. This TOC needs to be in addition to the main one
found in front of my technical manual. The purpose of this second TOC is to
avoid having to manually hyperlink a controls and indicators list I need to
include in the beginning of Section 3 in my tech manual. After the second TOC
generates I intend to delete all the hyperlinks I don't want and just leave
the Section 3 hyperlinks.

The problem I'm having is not being able to prevent the autogeneration of
the Paragraph Numbers in the second autogenerated TOC. I'm only able to
prevent the Page Numbers from autogenerating.

This shotcut will be great if I can make it work because it will free me
from having to manually hyperlink a 250 different components inside a table
that lists all of the controls and indicators in Section 3. I will really
appreciate it if anyone out there can help me out in figuring out how to
prevent the paragraph numbers from showing up on a second autogenerated TOC.

The only way to achieve this may be to insert TC fields for the second TOC
(select the text to be included and press Alt+Shift+O). When creating the
TOC, check the box for "Table entry fields" in the TOC Options dialog and
clear the check boxes for "Style" and "Outline levels."

Thanks for your post. Wondering if you can elaborate a little more because I
don't 100% follow you. You mention "insert TC fields for the second TOC
(select the text to be included and press Alt+Shift+O)" What text are you
referring to that I need to select? And as for "insert TC fields" do you
mean create a second TOC? Sorry that I'm asking you to clarify yourself but
I'm kind of slow today.

Essentially, I'm creating a second TOC that I want to repurpose for a
hyperlinked table list I want to put at the beginning of Section 3. I don't
want the Paragraph Numbers nor the Page numbers to be part of the hyperlink.
What is the best way to take apart a second TOC so that I can repurpose the
hyperlinks as a separate hyperlinked list? Any help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Just a quick followup with an idea I'm playing around with. I'm highlighting
from the main TOC at the front of the manual only Section 3. I then hit copy
and paste it into Excel. The Paragraph numbers end up on column A and the
Paragraph Title ends up on column B. Is there anyway to accomplish the same
thing using the tables in WORD? Why can't I copy and paste a portion of the
TOC and then convert TEXT to TABLE. Then separate out the paragraph numbers
by splitting the table using the pencil tool in the Tables & Borders Toolbar.
I tried this and it doesn't work. Any other ideas along this line?

I take it that you don't have a clue what a TC field is. It's a field that
creates a table of contents entry to your specifications. You select the
text in the document (the heading) and press Alt+Shift+O, which opens the
dialog with the selected text inserted. There are various options you can
diddle with. See the Help topic "Field codes: TC (Table of Contents Entry)
field."

To generate a TOC based on these custom entries (and only these), you must,
as I said, check the box for "Table entry fields" and clear the other two.
This TOC will contain only the text you selected (without the paragraph
numbers), and you can omit the page numbers as well.
