Is there a key command on the Mac to toggle between applications?
How do I highlight text in Word X?
How can I get my .doc downloads to open automatically?

Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,

Is there a key command on the Mac to toggle between applications?

Cmd-tab cycles through applications, shift-cmd-tab goes backwards.

(cmd is the apple key, called the command key, in case you are really new to
the Mac)

Cmd-` cycles through windows in the active application, shift-cmd-` goes
backwards.
How do I highlight text in Word X?

Just realized this may have two meanings, not sure which you wanted:

To add color highlighting to text, e.g., for emphasis:
There is a highlight icon on the Formatting toolbar (View |Toolbars |
Formatting). Select text first, then use the highlight icon (ABC with color
bar underneath) to highlight it. The little arrow on the side of the icon
lets you change colors.

To select text:
Same as in any computer or program. Click and drag over text while holding
the click. Or hold down the shift key while moving the cursor. If you are
having difficulties with this in Word X, please explain in great detail what
you do, what happens, and what you want to happen.
How can I get my .doc downloads to open automatically?

If you are using Safari to browse the web, in Safari | Preferences |
General, there's a checkbox for "open 'safe' files after downloading."
that's Safari 1.3 in OS 10.3.9 (Panther)--if you are in OS 10.4 (Tiger), you
have Safari 2, and the location or wording may be slightly different.

For other browsers, I'm not sure, but someone else may know if you specify.
Thanks, Jim
You're welcome. Glad to help.

Just a couple of embellishments to Daiya's excellent response:

Cycling App windows - Keep Cmd held down while you press & release Tab
and you can click the apropriate active app icon & go directly to it
without having to tab through them all.

Selecting Text - try Cmd+clicking a sentence to select it,
triple+clickig a paragraph, & using the mouse in the left margin (the
pointer will appear as a white arrow leaning toward the text) to select
a line. You can also drag down the margin to select additional lines.
There are dozens more... you might want to explore Word's Help Menu &
search for Select Text.

No Problem - keep in mind that once you select the Highlighter Tool you can
use the same selection techniques I mentioned.
