Toggle show/hide objects in presentation {ppt 2003 or 2007}

Is there a way to have an object be visible/not visible during a
presentation?

I want to have a text box that the viewer can see if they click a "show
text" button, but does not appear otherwise.

The workaround I have is to have the "show text" button link to an identical
slide with the text showing, then have a "hide text" button that links back
to the original slide - but this requires a bit of tweaking of other
navigation buttons, so I was wondering if there is a custom animation or
action setting that simply shows/hides the object on the same slide

You can do this with a toggled trigger animation in XP onwards. Use the
button as the trigger for an entrance and an exit animation. This page
