"too many edits"

didn't see this come thru before so I'm posting again

I have a word doc, approx 130-150 pages that serves as a template/work
in progress, which is edited continually as it is used from job to job
for my work. I have run into the "too many edits" error and now
cannot paste anything from other word formatted sources. The document
is linked to Excel in many places. I have followed all of the
suggestions on microsoft's site regarding this error. I have a 3 gig
dedicated temp file, 256 mb ram, have defragged, etc. I would greatly
appreciate any other suggestions as I am STUCK.
