too many recovered personal folders

P

pebso

this ng recently helped me to recover a deleted pst file. I attacked the
task before I asked for help and now have several recovered personal
folders none of which I'm able to delete.

my folder list is :

Archive Folders
Personal Folders
Recovered personal folders
Recovered personal folders
recovered personal folders
Outlook Today(recovered personal folders
recovered personal folders
recovered personal folders
Outlook toda (recoverd personal folders
recovered personal folders

Some of these folders cannot be opened as Outlook cannot find the
relevant pst file

Those that can be opened have a lost & found folder which contains lots
of numbered folders for each of my personal folders

These folders are all derived from 1 recovered pst file so all but one
can be dispensed with.

Can anyone kindly tell me how to do this please? I have tried right
clicking on the folder but no delete option is available.

I am running Office xp and deleted & reinstalled it today however all
the recovered personal folders are still there.

Next time I'll seek help as soon as I'm out of my depth before stumbling
around in the dark & makking things worse.

This is what I'd do in your situation. The first thing I'd so is move all
PSTs to some new folder so I know where things are and can start fresh. I'd
then create a new mail profile with a brand-new PST. I'd add in all my
accounts again and make sure things are clean. I'd then open (NOT IMPORT)
each of the other PSTs I had saved in the first step and manually move
anything in it I wanted to keep to the new PST. Once I'd finished with a
PST, I'd close it to detach it from the profile. When I had finished with
the last PST, I'd restart Outlook and delete the old PSTs to get ris of them
entirely.

Thank you so much. I've done as you suggested and I've now got just 1
pst, it's where I want it and everything I need has been moved to it.

The only thing now is to try & recreate my address book. I stiil have
an OE wab file however when I try to import it I get an error message
saying that Outlook has encountered a problem & needs to close.

What I would like is when I start a new e-mail to be able to click on
the address book symbol next to "To" or even "CC or BCC" If I click on
it now I get a message that the address list cannot be displayed....

What I described should also have preserved your Contacts as well. Why do
you think you need to rebuild them?

Well, now that I think about it, your Contacts folder could have been one of
the folders SCANPST wasn't able to recover, so I can see why you might have
to recreate it.

Yes that what's happened.

I beginning to recreate it using the addresses in recovered e-mails
however if I try to open it from an email I am writing by clicking on
athe address book symbol by "To" I get a message that "the address list
could not be opened. The contacts folder associated with this adress
could not be opened...." saying that it may have been moved or deleted.

Even any new contacts don't appear.

Remove the Outlook Address Book service from the mail profile, stop and
restart Outlook, and readd it.
