Too many spelling errors.

Xavier Boneu

Hi,

I have to deal with very long documents which have lots of words that the
spell checker considers as mistakes but aren't.

Very often I get a message saying that since too many errors where found,
the spell cheker will do no more spell checking.

I would like to know how could I increase the limit of mistakes found or
even better, how could I tell Word to perform the spell cheking regardless
the number of mistakes found.

Thank you,
Xavier.

I don't believe that the "too many errors" message ever stops Word from
actually checking the spelling explicitly (with F7), but it does suppress
the "Check spelling as you type" display of errors. There is no way to
increase Word's tolerance for errors; this shutdown is needed to avoid
performance issues (in the same way that Word may turn on the display of
"Picture placeholders" if the number of images in a file is affecting
performance).

What you can do, however, assuming that these words are, as you say, not
mistakes, is:

1. For words that you use frequently, click Add to Dictionary.

2. For the rest, create a "no proofing" character style and apply it to the
offending words (as described in
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/MasterSpellCheck.htm#ExemptingText). This
will prevent Word from trying to spell-check them and will allow it to
concentrate on the rest. If you don't know how to create a character style,
find instructions at the beginning of my article at
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm. If you assign a keyboard
shortcut to the style, it will be as easy to apply as bold or italic
formatting.
