Too Many Windows Open - And there aren't

I'm in Word 2004, version 11.5.0, on OS 10.4.11.
Two days ago - I do periodic automatic updates, and can't remember
when this began in re: to updates - I began getting an error message
something like, "Too many windows open; close some windows" and then
"Microsoft Word can't auto-save this document, do you want to save it
to [can't recall the exact name, something like Emergency Save
Document 2] [NOT Autorecovery]. I'd say yes, and, and try to close
some windows - sometimes there was only one other window open;
sometimes not even that ] and would get into a loop, Word would not
save, just ask me again, do you want to save it to * Document 3]. I
was not able to save, and not able to find where these Emergency Saved
Documents were stored; they were NOT in the Autorecovery File.
Naturally, this happened at the worst possible moment. Can anyone
help with this? I'm sorry I do not have the exact wording of the
error messages; I can try to recreate if necessary.

I would guess that your system ran out of memory and Word was not able to
catch it in time.

If you are using Word vigorously, you may find it safer to restart the
computer when you finish work each day.

That cleans up and reclaims all the system memory, and releases all the
temporary files.

Hope this helps
