tool to create outlined documents
I'm looking for a tool to use to create informal documents that follow this
outline style:
1 item 1's header
1.1 item 1.1's header
1.2 etc.
1.2.1
1.2.2
1.2.2.1
1.2.2.2
2
2.1
3
3.1
etc.
The tool should be able to auto-generate a hyperlinked table-of-contents for
a specified level of outline depth.
For example, for the above outline, a 3rd-level TOC would be :
1 <item 1's header> (hyperlink)
1.1 <item 1.1's header> (hyperlink)
1.2 etc.
1.2.1
1.2.2
2
2.1
3
3.1
I'd like to able to freely key-enter my outline-levels ("1.1.1") and then
tag them somehow (such as preceding each outline-level with a special
character-sequence).
What I want to avoid is "select a block of content and tell the tool to
intelligently apply an outlining style". (I believe this is a feature
offered by MS Word 2000.)
Additionally, at any level in the outline, I'd like to be able to insert
other common outline styles on an ad-hoc basis -- without affecting how the
tool handles the overall outline.
For example,
1.2
1.2.1
(a)
(b)
(c)
1.2.2
Any suggestions ?
