Toolbar Appearance in Office 2003

The toolbars have an odd background that makes them hard
to read. I ould like the toolbars to appear without any
background. How do I change their appearance.

What are your windows settings? That controls the appearance of the
toolbars in Office.

The windows setting control the genereal appearance indeed. But not the
toolbars in Office. But the new Office has a distinctive 3D-like round bar
appearance that I personally dislike too. For me it is a reason to return to
Office 2000.

Maybe there is a workaround when all the icons are added to the menu-bar,
which has no 3D-like appearance.

I'm glad that finally there is a post about it because I was wondering if
I'm the only one that does not like it.
It might look good on huge lcd-screens though but not on anything else.

I wouldn't go back to Office 2000, but the new look is definitely visually
taxing. I changed my Windows colouring to Silver for a marginal improvement.

No. But by choosing the "Windows Classic Style" in the Windows XP Display
control Panel's Appearance tab, the Office 2003 apps revert to a close
approximation of the Office XP look.

It doesn't look good on anything I've seen. This is not the first Office NG
post on the issue. On reviewer sites I have seen them described as "horrid",
"cartoonish", and a "garish grotesquerie".

Funny how opinions differ. I think the toolbars and UI is the absolute best
looking to date. And that is on flat screens, flat panels and crt's. I would
hate to ever revert back.

.
When I try the windows classic option in windows xp, the
3-d effect is still there. In the books I have looked at
in the bookstore aobut Office 2003, the screen shots
don't have the 3-d toolbars, leading me to think there is
an option buried somewhere to turn the 3-d effect off.
