toolbar disappeared

Dear Folks,

I have a strange problem with Word for Mac. The format toolbar disappeared
and cannot be retrieved by the View menu. In fact it seems to be present but
invisible. I've tried to locate it anywhere on the desktop or behind windows
but to no avail.

Has anyone encountered the same thing and the knowledge to fix it?
