toolbar issue/ plus document slides up

I am sorry if this is not the right place and would appreciate knowing
where the right place would be. I am running office 2004 on my Imac
with 10.4.8. Every time I open excel (and word for this issue) the
Adobe acorbat tool bar icons appear below my standard tool bar. If I go
to the toolbar menu and turn them off, they go away, but every time I
open excel or word, these two toolbar icons reappear. I cannot find
where to turn them off for good, or to delete them.

Also, with excel, often, when I remove these icons from the toolbar by
choosing view/toolbar, the excel document will move up, and slide under
the default tool bar. The only way I can get to it to pull it down is
to close the toolbar and then click on the top of the document and drag
it down and then reset the toolbar.

And last but not least, where in the preferences do I tell excel to NOT
have a blank document arrive when I open excel?

again, I'm sorry if this is not the right place and would gratefully
move my post if you can tell me where it should go.

respectfully yours,
Michelle

This sounds to me like your default toolbar is not perfectly "docked"
in place. Drag it to somewhere else on the screen, then put it back.
Make sure it jumps (only a little bit, mind) into place. Click the
green plus sign on the workbook to maximise to the available space.

Thanks Phil, I have tried this a couple of times but it still scoots up
there at times. I cannot tell you exactly when it happens.. but I do
think it only happens when I clear the Adobe tool icons away.

Is anyone able to help me get rid of them permanately? What do other
do who have installed excel and those show up?

Also, I'd still like to hear on how to tell excel to open withOUT
opening a blank doc every time.

thanks,
Michelle

Michelle:

The easiest way I could see to handle both of those problems at once
would be to put the following code into your Personal Macro Workbook.
(BTW, if you don't have such a thing, I'll explain how to make one
below.)

Private Sub Auto_Open()
Application.Toolbars("Acrobat 6").Hide
Workbooks.Close
End Sub

I'm not absolutely sure about the name of the toolbar. The easiest way
to find out is to go to View, then Toolbars, then look for its name.
Change the name in parentheses to match.

If you don't have a Personal Macro Workbook, you can go to Tools,
Macro, Record New Macro. Then call the macro Michelle. When it asks
where to store it, say "Personal Macro Workbook."

Then, just click cell B2, then click Stop.

Then, go to Tools, Macro, Visual Basic Editor.

Then, you can paste the above code in there.

That'll take care of the problem.
