Toolbar storage location

I have had a number of computer issues over the last couple of weeks and in
correcting them, have lost my (customized) toolbars. Can you please tell
where toolbars for Microsoft Professional Office 2003 applications are
stored? I am hoping I can reload them from a backup.
Thank you for your assistance.

Unless otherwise specified, custom toolbars are save in normal.dot or if you
are working on a template, they are saved with that template.

It is also possible that they were saved with a special custom template and
placed in the Word Startup folder which will make Word load them whenever
Word is opened.

Terry,
Thank you so much for taking the time to address my posting. It was my
understanding from what I have been reading from the Microsoft home page that
personalized menus and toolbars are stored in a *.pip file for each
application. Unfortunately, I perfomed an extensive search and have been
unable to locate a .pip file on my hard drive. Any suggestions to locate my
previously created toolbars would be much appreciated.

The *.pip file is probably stored in a hidden folder. Are you displaying
hidden and system files and folders?

What the *.pip file stores is not "customizations" but "personalizations."
The distinction may be elusive, but what this has to do with is the use of
"adaptive" or "personalized" menus. This file stores your usage of specific
commands on the menu when you have "Menus show recently used items first"
enabled (Word 2000) or "Always show full menus" disabled (Word 2002/2003).
See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/193006

As Terry said, customizations (both custom toolbars and toolbar/menu
customizations, as well as added macros, AutoText entries, etc.) are stored
by default in Normal.dot
