Toolbar will not stay docked

Mail Merge Toolbar will not stay docked (Word 2003).
Each day when I start Word to use a mail merge document the mail merge
toolbar is undocked. I dock the tool bar, close Word and reopen, the toolbar
is docked. All day the toolbar stays docked. Next day the toolbar is
undocked. Why?

Open the normal.dot template
Dock the toolbar
Type a character in the text space
Delete it
Save normal.dot
Close Word
Open Word
Has that fixed it?
