Toolbars don't load when I open word.

I had someone using my computer and when I went to use word the toolbars don't load anymore. When I check under the toolbars they will be checked, but don't load. The only way I can get them to load to uncheck them and recheck them, this then loads them all the way to the left on the top side (with the double arrows on the right side of it) but then it won't expand. I then have to select and unselect it a few times to get it to go all the way across the top.
Then if I close word, I have to redo all this the next time I try to use it.
I have tried resetting the toolbars, but this didn't work.
Please help! This is very very annoying!

Click the oblong button at the right end of the Title Bar to toggle constant
display of the toolbars docked in the document window.

Their length, however is determined by the width of the document window,
itself - if you widen the window docked toolbars will stretch accordingly.

Any floating toolbars shouldn't be affected. Their height & width is
determined by the controls they contain & they can't be made any larger or
smaller than required to display those controls.
