toolbars hide document I am working on

Hello:

I have Word 11.5.3, on a MacBook. When I am in the office I connect it to an external monitor, and when on the road I use it's own screen. This always caused a minor problem, as when switching monitors, Word always started hiding the top of the document, with it's little red, green and yellow buttons, behind the tool bars (standard and formatting). But I could always remedy it with a one-time click on the green button, and from then on documents would open below the tool bars (until the next monitor switch).

Now that fix won't work anymore. It is very annoying, and I have to hide the toolbars anytime I want to close a doc.

Any ideas?

thanks!

Hello rosset;

It might help to know that there a several other ways to close a document;

File> Close, or
Command+W, and
you can add a Close button to any toolbar

However, the reason for the problem you're having is that your toolbars
aren't actually *docked* beneath the Menu Bar -- they may be *close* but
they aren't quite there :) Use the "tab" at the left end of the bars to
move them around a little in order to get the upper one snugged up against
the Menu Bar's bottom edge, then drag any others up to snap in place beneath
the first. As you do so the document window will automatically drop into
place beneath them.

Unfortunately your situation is compounded by the use of 2 monitors. My
guess is that the screen size & resolution is different on the two & that's
what's causing things to get out of whack in the first place. I don't know
what to suggest that will avoid that although it's possible that it can be
controlled by a macro or Apple Script. You might want to have a look at:

as one alternative. There may also be other options but I don't know what.

BTW: If your version info is accurate you're 2 updates behind -- 11.5.5 is
the current update level for Office 2004.

If you don't want all the toolbars docked in that way you just have to keep
them away from the top of the screen. They can either float or be docked on
either of the other 3 sides.
