Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

All the boxes are checked, but only a few panels (font, number, alignment & spacing, borders &shading, page setup and document theme) appear in the palette itself. No matter what I do I can't get Ledger Sheet or any other option to appear. Any advice?

Do you have a ledger sheet selected? The Formatting Palette is context
sensitive - it won't show the Ledger Sheet pane unless it can be used
(i.e., a ledger sheet is selected).

So ledger sheet will not appear in the formatting palette even if it's selected for every excel sheet? Basically, I'm trying to rename my column headings - so instead of A, B, C, on top of the grid it will be customized.

Not sure what you mean by "selected for every excel sheet". A normal
excel sheet is not a ledger sheet, and vice versa.

That is not an option for regular worksheets in any version of XL.

Thank you. I get it now. I didn't know that there were regular worksheets and then ledger sheets. I thought if I checked off ledger sheet panel on the toolbox format palette I could customize the column headings on a regular worksheet. Now I see I can only do this if I use a ledger sheet. Correct? Thanks

Yes. Ledger sheets are an interesting addition to XL's tools. In
exchange for the convenience of pre-formatted sheets with the formulas
already worked out, you give up some flexibility.

It'll be interesting to see if they catch on more globally.
