Is there anyway to keep the toolbox open and expanded horizontally on top of the page (under new, open, save, etc)?

I was using office 2007 for PC and it had a great interface with all your option buttons on the top of the page.

I don't like having the the toolbox floating vertically on the page I"m working on.

In a word, "No". This is the old user interface, it uses toolbars and task
panes.

What I do is place most of what is on the toolbox that I use on my toolbars
(right-click the toolbars and choose customise...)

Then I set the Toolbox to get outta my face when I have finished with it.

I use it very rarely, because I've taken all the rubbish of the toolbars and
put the stuff I do use up there. Sadly, there are some things you can do
only with the Toolbox.

Hope this helps

No, XL08 doesn't have the Ribbon that XL07 does, and the Toolbox is
fixed in a vertical position.

You're one of the tiny minority of people that I've heard or seen
describe the Office 2007 Ribbon as a "great interface", although the
proportion seems to be increasing somewhat. Most experienced users that
I know still can't stand it. Newer users seem to be more receptive.

Oh, I crossed over to the dark side :) You have to USE the 2007 UI for a
while before it grows on you.

The more experienced you are, the longer it takes.

In my case: it took two months for the swearing to die down :)

Now, I find the Word 2003/8 user interface terribly slow and clunky!

Cheers
