Tools On Main Menu Does Not Work

When I click on Tools in the main menu, tools will not activate ro drop down.
I cannot get to mail merge or any other command. How can I get Tools to work
again?

What version of Word and OS are you using?
Are they patched up to date?
Have they been activated and registered?
When did this start happening?

Hi Terry,

I am using Word 2003 and XP Professional.

Yes, they are patched up to date.

Yes, both are registered and activated. I purchased them thru Dell.

Tools has not activated for about two weeks or so. I can't think of any
program that I have add before that. Again the 'Tool Icon" on the Main Menu
will not drop down when I click it nor will it drop down when I put the
cursor over it.

I haven't had this one for sometime: it was a virus that used to cause this
but it is so long ago and I cannot believe that the virus is still around.

Have you gone into the Help menu and run the Detect and Repair diagnostics?

Hi Terry,

I have done the following:

Ran Detect and Repair diagnostics in Word Help - no luck.

Performed a Full System scan with Norton Anti-Virus yesterday.

Ran SpyBot v. 1.5.2 updated today.

Ran Uniblue RegisterBooster 2 today

Ran Advanced System Optimizer By Systweak, Inc. today.

Rebooted computer.

Opened Word 2003.

Clicked on Tools on the Main Menu and still Tools would not open or drop down.

Would uninstalling Word 2003 and reinstalling Word do any good? Coould this
be a Normal.dot file problem?

Run Regedit and delete the Word DataKey.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

It will recreate itself when Word is restarted.
