Top Level Site Template

I have uploaded twelve additional site templates. However, I can only set
the top level site as Project Workspace for newly created sharepoint sites.
How can I can this to use other site templates provided by Microsoft?

You must use the Project Workspace template for creating Project Workspaces
as this has Project Server specific functionality. You can, however, modify
this template for use with all future sites created for Project Server.

just to clarify I am running project and server 2003. I have created other
templates and uploaded them through the cmd window but I still dont see them
as options in web access and I havent found a way to modify the default
project workspace. Thanks

That's the procedure I used to create the Template and upload it. It becomes
globally available but it does not show up on Project Web Access.
I need to know how to modify/replace the Global template that is used as
default.

All i see in the drop down menu is "Project Workspace", which is the same as
the original default template.
If I try "enumtemplates" in the cmd window, I can see the new templates I
create but not the initial default one. If I create a new template, I can use
it to create new workspaces through sharepoint but I can't get it to ever
appear on web access as one of the templates for project workspaces... any
ideas? am I creating templates in the wrong location?

Gary,
Do you have updated instructions on how to customize the Project Workspace
Template for Project Server 2007?

Thanks,
KarenF

Thanks Gary,
I was able to do this and it worked well. But I had to start with an
already existing site that was created for a test project - customize that
and then save as a template. My question is: How do I change that template
without starting over with another site? By doing it this way, I had to
delete the test project but not delete the site.

Can we change the orginal Default workspace? If so, how do you do this?

Thanks,
KarenF
