totally messed up my outlook.pst?

Hi,

My current state of affairs is the direct result of being cheap. I
attempted to synch my outlook folders between a laptop and desktop using the
briefcase method mentioned elsewhere. However, after inadvertently deleting
some appointments with the briefcase update, I decided I better pony up some
cash for a third party app. In this instance, I used SynchPst, which had
been reviewed favorably on slipstick.com.

Now, when I was using the outlook.pst in the briefcase, I had two copies of
the personal folders in Outlook. One directly referred to the outlook.pst in
the briefcase. The other referred back to the original outlook.pst stored
under C:\Doc and Settings\Local settings\app data\ms\outlook\oulook.pst. The
odd thing was that I had removed this from the data files in outlook
(Tools->options->mail settings->data files). However, it continued to
appear. Now when I started to use SynchPST, I copied my briefcase
outlook.pst back to the proper storage place for outlook.pst and removed the
briecase version of outlook.pst from the data files list. Everything seemed
to work fine. However, synchpst did not sync properly. When I checked the
data files, the outlook.pst was not listed even though it appeared that all
the data was there. When I tried to add the file to the list, Outlook
crashes and then reopens. The odd thing is that the correct mail folder is
listed when I check the mail delivery location under e-mail options.

I have tried to inbox repair tool scanpst to no avail as well as trying the
detect and repair option (though I did not reset to all default settings).
My feeling is that I somehow have prevented Outlook from properly accessing
that pst file and as a result, it is not synching properly with syncpst.
What I need to restore Outlook's ability to properly recoginize that .pst
file so that it can access all the data there. Any suggestions?
