Trach Changes question

I was sent a long word document written in a Windows version of
Word.

When I try to use Track Changes, my comments end up at the bottom
of the document instead of alongside the text in the margin.

I'm using MS Office for the Mac on an Intel running OS 10.6.1.

Thanks in advance for any advance.

Word> Options> Track Changes, change the settings to suit yourself.

Mr. Jones,

Thank you for your response.
Looking through "Options" under "Track Changes"...I honestly
don't see what choice should be causing the changes to end up at the
bottom of the document.
I'm using Word 2008 for the Mac; I think the original document
was written in an earlier Windows version of Word. Might this have any
relevance?
Thanks again.

The option to show or hide the reviewing pane at the
bottom of the screen is in the Reviewing toolbar,
under the Show button, "Reviewing Pane".
You can click this one to show or hide the
reviewing pane.

Hi Mark;

What I was referring to is the checkbox labeled "Use balloons to display
changes". It's at the bottom of the Track Changes Preference pane. If that
box is checked Jeff's reply about the Reviewing Pane button is the next
thing to do, but it only toggles the display of the pane itself. IOW, just
turning off the Reviewing Pane will not cause the Comment Balloons to appear
automatically... And if the "use balloons..." box is checked the Comment
Balloons will display regardless of whether the Reviewing pane is on or off.

Bob and Jeff,

The combination of tips fixed everything. Changes and comments now
appear in the right margin Thanks very much.
