Tracing icross project task dependencies

V

vikb

I am wondering if there is any way to trace task successors across multiple
linked projects.
We have a large number of project plans that have task dependencies and
milestones and are able to assemble these into a temporary master schedule as
necessary.
We have seen VB examples that do a dependency trace within a specific
project but need to expand this to all linked projects.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

You might look at the functionality of the EPK add on - www.EPKgroup.com
There is MUCH more than just cross-project task viewing (via PWA), but might
help

Alternatively, I recommend to my clients that they think about not
hard-linking schedules, but setting up a couple of fields marked give/get
and give/get reference.

This way, each PM, can define a milestone, linked to a task that is getting
(a successor) or giving (a predecessor) to/from a task in another project.
The reference field allows the PM to mark which task in which project is the
give/get. This has the advantage of:
1) Encouraging communication if different PMs own each schedule. I recommend
they set up a view of give get and review with the appropriate schedule
owner weekly
2)Doesn't hard link schedules, meaning that if you come in one morning you
won't find your schedule blown out when you haven't touched it, and have to
spend time working out why and then who.

Just some thoughts
