Track Changes: Absence of strikethrough for deletion

Is anyone else having problems with MS Word 2004 where Word does not show
strikethrough for deletions when "track changes" is activated? With any
deletion, the deleted texts would just disappear without any mark-up that
one expects from change tracking.

Other editing changes are shown correctly apart from this.

I've checked the correct options were chosen under Preferences -> Track
Changes -> Mark strikethrough.

Any ideas? Thanks.

This is very completely explained in my ebook, Take Control of What's
New in Word 2004 (the second volume). There are three parts to the
answer: (1) it depends what your settings in the Track Changes pref pane
are, (2) it depends which of the four track changes modes you are in,
and (3) it depends whether the balloons are showing. m.

Thank you for the 3 pointed answer. I am starting to understand what's going
on now.
