Track Changes and Numbering

I have Word 2003 Document, that it being shared back and
forth with Word 2002, and here is the issue. I turned on
Track Changes in while in 2002. Then sent the document
to 2003. When I got it back, I turned off track changes
however when I insert a number, using the auto numbering
function in Word, the Track Changes function shows the
change even though it is turned off in both Word 2002 and
2003. How do a stop track changes from working with the
autonumbering (it is off in the rest of the document)?

Hi Sharon

Entanglement between numbering and track changes used to occur back in Word
97 and in that case the only solution I recall was to treat it as a corrupt
document, and paste the contents (excluding the last paragraph) into a new
document.

Other things you might try:

Different views on the changes
Accept all changes
Use a macro to turn off tracking (ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = False)
Reset the panes in Format > Bullets and Numbering

For longer term stability, it's usually better to use styles for numbering,
rather than the AutoNumbering feature.

I am running into similar issues:

Two similar problems:

1) Save a document with Page X of Y in footer. E-mail it
to a friend. Friend opens document, and finds that the
Y in the footer is Y(strikethrough)(space)Y ... i.e.,
Word is re-calculating the page total and tracking its
change.

2) Friend opens same document, finds that the table of
contents has also re-calculated itself and tracked each
change.

Any new inspiration based on this issue?
