Up until this morning, when I selected a whole word with double-click
(and if I extend the selection with Ctrl-Shift-arrow) and typed over
it, there would automatically be a space after the newly typed word.
But now, the new word goes right up against the following word!
I tried turning on "selecting automatically selects a whole word,"
which is a Bad Thing, but that had no effect.
It's not Smart Cursoring or Smart Paragraph Selection, because I have
never had those on.
